Flexibly Capable Software Engineer

Oblong Industries’ Solutions Engineering team is leading the charge in building immersive experiences that seamlessly knit together millions of pixels across multiple surfaces, screens, and interaction modes. Our team builds interfaces at scale, in one unified frame of reference that is measured in meters rather than pixels, allowing simultaneous interaction and collaboration by multiple users. We are building exhilarating experiences for our Fortune 500 clients uniquely leveraging our g-speak™ platform and Mezzanine product family.  

In our Flexibly Capable Solutions Engineer position, you will program in C++ (with additional Javascript as needed). You might find yourself optimizing low-level asset-handling algorithms one day, and the next day you might be working through the details of a UI problem presenting 2D and 3D data across a 40’ display wall. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a core team building bespoke interfaces for some of the biggest names in business. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop custom solutions and new applications for clients
  • Work directly with clients to validate and refine new features for complex interactions with different components in room-sized systems
  • Create new components and abstractions that contribute to the Solutions Engineering and Mezzanine API toolkit for use in future work
  • Communicate effectively with team members and client stakeholders to ensure project success
  • Develop great documentation to support the users of our software 

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field of study
  • 5+ years experience developing production-quality software in C++
  • Fluency in a dynamic language such as Python, Ruby, Javascript, etc.
  • Proficiency in Unix and Linux environments
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to effectively support and communicate with clients in-person
  • Excellent writing skills and experience writing technical documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with web application stacks
  • Experience working with audio/video pipelines
  • Creative coding experience using OpenFrameworks / Cinder / Processing / Greenhouse
